Summary: 

Drupal theming allows you to present the content of your Drupal website in a stunning, effective and user-friendly way. Through this introductory Drupal theming course attendees will discover how to theme/skin a Drupal website. The key tools to assist themers will be covered along with the most powerful base themes that allow a standards compliant theme to be built rapidly for both large screen displays and mobile devices.

N.B. This standalone training day does also form part of the Drupal Training Series and can be booked on its own or with any of the other three training days in the series.

N.B. This standalone training day can also be combined with the Advanced Theming for Drupal day to form a comprehensive 2 day "theming" course.

This course is aimed at: 

Web designers and developers who need to produce a custom look and feel for their Drupal websites

Prerequisites: 

Some knowledge of CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) is desirable but not essential.

Course Outline: 

Following this course attendees will be able to:

  • Understand the Drupal Theme Layer
  • Appreciate current trends in theming - particulary "responsive theming" (mobile devices)
  • Understand theming alternatives
  • Prepare a site for theming
  • Sub-theme and modify existing themes
  • Build a custom Drupal theme from a given design
  • Use key browser plug-ins and helper modules
  • Work with and customise theme template files
  • Add regions to the page template
  • Customise node templates
  • Understand key page template variables
  • Work with "responsive" / "mobile-first" base themes
  • ... and more besides
Requirements: 
  • Attendees provide their own Internet-ready laptop (Drupal installation is included as part of each course).
  • Attendees simply need to be comfortable using a computer and a browser (downloading files from Internet etc.)
  • NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE OF DRUPAL NECESSARY

Terms and conditions:

  • Course fees are payable when the course is booked and your place reserved. Your seat on the course is reserved for seven days - pending payment in advance. Attendance will not be possible unless fees have been paid.
  • Cancellation fees: Notice must be received at least 2 weeks prior to the course date for a refund to apply. With between 4 and 2 weeks notice of cancellation or postponement, 50% of your payment will be retained as a cancellation charge. With less than 2 weeks notice the cancellation charge will be 100% (no refund due).
  • I do reserve the right to make changes to the programme for the course without prior notice and the venue (any alternative venue will be a reasonable distance from the original and at least 48 hours notice will be given).
  • In the event of a terrorist alert, or any other incident that causes unavoidable disruption - I will not offer refunds to delegates unless the event is canceled - in which case I will retain up to 30% of the ticket cost to cover my non-recoverable costs.
  • N.B. Substitutions are perfectly acceptable as long as the person standing in fulfills the prerequisites for the course (if any).
