School Websites

Having previously graduated in Physics and then taught for a few years, I can understand the requirements for a good school website.

I appreciate that this type of website has a very different set of goals and very different audiences.

I can help you to produce a school website that will enthuse pupils, delight parents, impress governors (and inspectors alike) and empower staff

My websites put you (and your staff) in control of the content of your website - helping it to be dynamic and thereby capturing and maintaining interest. You can edit and add pages yourselves easily through an efficient, behind the scenes, Content Management System (Drupal) helping you to keep all stakeholders informed and involved.

You can see an example of one of my feature-rich school websites here: www.hormead.herts.sch.uk

Standard features for your new school website:

• Clean, contemporary design - incorporating your school colours, motifs/logos etc.
• Updating, editing and adding new pages and menu items by staff at the school through a sophisticated (yet easy to use) award-winning Content Management System (on-site training can be provided).
• Adding pupil work, images and stories for example (in state of the art slide-shows etc.).
• Ability to use the website to bring the IT curriculum to life and teach students web-publishing etc. through their own school website.
• A dynamic "Calendar of Events" that you update easily with an "upcoming events" block highlighting these (includes a "private" calendar too - visible to staff/governors only).
• Dynamic Google Location Map - with "street view".
• Advanced website "search" facility.
• News section - keeping all stakeholders up to date.
• Emergency announcement feature for front page (e.g. school closure announcements that can be posted/published from any computer connected to the Internet).
• Blogs - one or many.
• A spam-proof contact form.
• FAQ section - answering questions on-line and saving admin staff time to handle calls (updated easily by staff).
• Links section (updated easily by staff).
• Separate sections for each class teacher so that they can keep their pupils and parents updated and informed on any and all issues, achievements, events etc.

And all this would fall within the Intermediate website specification - costing less than £1,000 all in.
